Police raided club Arena on charges of sexual favors and tax evasion of Big Bang Seungri.
The metropolitan investigation team of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency began a raid on club Arena on Tuesday morning. For this, more than 20 investigators from Kwangsoo University and others were mobilized to the scene. The purpose of the search is to secure evidence such as suspicion of Seungri and sexual favors. Earlier, Yonhap news agency reported that police fielded Arena.
Club Arena, located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, is the first place where suspicion of sexual favors erupted last month. In addition, he is charged with tax evasion worth tens of billions of won.
The police began a raid on the club Arena.
However, the company has been temporarily suspended for construction of an internal information center since 7th, shortly after reports of tax evasion were reported.
The recent Seungri talks about by allegations of police collusion, sex crimes and drugs at the club Burning Sun, where he was a director.
In particular, SBS fUNE made a big stir last month when it revealed details of Kakao Talk conversations that were held by employees of Yuri Holdings in 2015. The conversation contained a hint of sexual hospitality. The place that appeared here was Arena. However, both Seungri’s team and the holding company are saying that they are all fabricated. Yuri Holdings, which also served as director of the board of directors, is suspected to be the holding company of Burning Sun.
Seungri is expected to join the military on the 25th. When he joins the military, the related case is transferred to the military prosecution. The trial will also be held by the military court. However, it is possible for the police and the military prosecutors to conduct a joint investigation. Some netizens expressed their dissatisfaction with the plan through the bulletin board of the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae.
Police on Sunday accelerated their probe into sex-for-favors allegations involving Seungri of South Korean boy band BIG BANG, as they booked him as a suspect and raided a Seoul nightclub associated with the performer to gather evidence.
Investigators are looking into the suspicion that Seungri used various nightclubs in Seoul’s posh Gangnam district for lobbying and even attempted to introduce escorts to foreigners to encourage them to invest in his business ventures.
On Sunday morning, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent 20 investigators to raid the nightclub Arena to gather evidence about the swirling suspicions surrounding the 29-year-old singer.
“To secure a warrant for the raid aimed at addressing suspicions, we have booked Seungri as a suspect,” a police officer said on condition of anonymity.
The police recently launched their preliminary probe into the case after local media disclosed social media messages last month that sparked allegations Seungri attempted to buy illicit sex services for potential foreign investors.
Police reportedly booked three or four others related to the allegations.
On Feb. 27, police questioned Seungri over the allegations. He also underwent a test over suspicion of drug use. He denies all allegations.
Last week, his agency, YG Entertainment, announced he will join the Army on March 25.
Separately, police raided the Seoul Regional Office of the National Tax Service last Friday as part of their probe into allegations of Arena’s tax evasion.
