Hello V.I who’s giving variety talents a run for their money!

-You aren’t just an artist as a member of Big Bang, but as the talent V.I or “Seung-chan,” you’ve been participating in many Japanese variety shows! Not only do you have fans of your music but you’ve become familiar as a household name.
Thanks so much.

-This is crazy, in one day you appear three times in a row on television.
On Sunday (nights) at 7, 8 and 9.

-That’s prime-time on the weekends!
(Like he was an outsider) That’s really amazing~

-Furthermore, you’ve appeared with many amazing people.
(Akashiya) Sanma, Downtown, Higashino (Kouji)…I’ve appeared together with these people from the Japanese entertainment scene, just this by itself is great but above that aren’t our talks a lot of fun? Spirits are super high, the atmosphere on set is really awesome. Appearing in variety shows, you say “Its like a different world~” when you discover something new right? Each time I feel from the bottom of my heart its fun, laughing the entire time forgetting that I’m actually working.

-You’ve appeared in Japanese variety show as part of Big Bang countless times but, realizing you reached the point where you could appear as V.I by yourself, this new find, did you have any thoughts on the transition?
Japanese variety shows are an amazing thing, in the show there are elements of music, themes of cuisine, and while watching clips, you can become acquainted with various worldwide news…so it isn’t just fun, they say you become enriched with knowledge, its really informative. So, now if the timing is right on one show I will say some sort of information I learned from another one.

-Treating them separately is not making good use of it, its practical what you’re doing.
Since it was at great lengths I gained that knowledge, its a waste that only I know it right? In saying “OO is XX” with an EH!?! they’ll be surprised, and delighted, I’ll be happy making everyone smile.

-They say smiles are contagious. Of course it’s what you’re saying, but just watching your fun expressions on screen you can’t help but smile.
Saying things like that makes me really happy, and I wonder if thats the reason behind me appearing on variety shows.

-By the way, since you’ve have gained a lot of information, could you tell us something?
Before when I appeared on “Waratte iitomo” (on Fuji Television) , I asked “Why does everyone make a “V” sign when they take a picture?” Then they said the “V” sign meant “Victory.” Naturally since my name means “Victory,” the “V” sign is my pose!

-That’s quite good information!
I asked by chance and it tied in with me. I was surprised, after that I’ve told various people (laughs)

-That was by chance!? By the way, the last time you were here (in March), your Japanese was almost perfect but now it is perfect! There aren’t many words you don’t know right?
But occasionallyyyy~ I will say things weird (laughs) Recently I went to Shanghai since we had a Big Bang concert, meeting up with the members after such a long time we were speaking in Korean to each other. The next day coming back to Japan, even though I tried to speak in Japanese like I normally would, my head was functioning slowly. I couldn’t immediately remember the words and I was like “Huh? What am I trying to say?” Converting from Korean to Japanese is difficult and takes a lot of time (strained laugh)

-So that means at this moment, you are doing a high speed conversion from Korean to Japanese in your head?
Yes I am. In order to do it faster, when I’m at home, I leave Japanese television on all night. If I do that, Japanese enters my ears naturally, and it’ll get stored in my head right?

-Its important that you build it up everyday.
Of course. Even with Big Bang that’s a natural thing. If you don’t give a great effort with anything, you won’t be able to move forward!

-By the way, what TV shows do you normally watch?
The shows I appear on (laughs) I check out all the shows that I’ve been on. Watching them, I can reflect on them, saying that I should’ve said this there or I should’ve done more of this there.

-I’m the opposite, do you praise yourself when you’ve done a good job?
I don’t. Ah, but I guess occasionallyyyy~ I do (laughs) In giving myself many praises I’ll say something like I want to become even better in Japanese, in conversation or the punch lines…I will work hard and study stand-up comedy!

-Well then, for next time I think I’ll be asking you about your daily life in Japan.
Yes, I got it~. This is the beginning of my series in “Oricon Style” as this series goes on, everyone will learn what kind of person I am whether its one person or many. Please look  forward to it every week~!
