Big Bang Shows "Monster" Power in Album Sales in Japan, & with Audiences in Taiwan

K-pop idol band Big Bang has proved to be the rulers of K-pop.

The group scored the gold status for two of their Japanese singles after selling over 100,000 copies in Japan, according to Recording Industry Associations of Japan [RIAJ] last Friday.

Their latest sales record for "Tell Me Goodbye" and 2012 hit "FANTASTIC BABY" is just another feat for the stars, after gaining the title with "ALIVE"--Japanese edition of Big Bang's fifth mini-album of the same name--earlier this year.

Following the achievement, the five-member band was overjoyed again by shattering the biggest ticket sales record of all time for Korean artists in Taiwan.

The dominant boy group had attracted 20,000 fans for two sold-out shows hosted at the Taipei Arena last weekend and raked in approximately four million U.S. dollars for both shows.

Set to hit Manila’s Moa Arena in Philippines on Wednesday, the K-pop icons will keep themselves busy until early next February with more shows in Malaysia, United States, Peru, Japan, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.

        Actually, I can believe that TVXQ as 5 way back when were really popular in japan. I remember when I first started looking at J-pop, I heard of Tohoshinki and I had no idea who they were, other than they seemed popular in Japan. It left a pretty lasting impression on me.

        As for now, I don't know if that still holds true. I would say Big Bang is now really popular in Japan (I mean come on, J-VIPs get, like, two a dozen concerts there everytime BB comes around)

      "no one can beat" There is still a lot of time in the future, Perhaps BB will make a block buster song that the Japanese will adore and become a national hit, we don't know.
      Besides its not a case of beating really, its just a great achievement that their music has sold so well, comparing them to TVXQ - in a time when the japanese industry was not as saturated and did not have quite as strong an aversion to Korean importing because it was less obvious- only gives the impression you are endevouring to diminish this accomplishment (doing a Kayne West to Taylor Swift if you will) and its not necessary.
      I do not know if you are a Cassie or not but the snobby attitude, going around pushing those 'facts' whenever anyone achieves anything (not just BB) reeks of insecurity and is worse than the supposed arrogance of VIPs. You might not want people going around saying BB is the best or whatever which is fair, a humbleness injection is fine when people get out of hand however its not gone that far and no one brought up TVXQ before you therefore whatever status you think they should have has not been threatened. Raining on someone's parade is not a nice thing to do, or if you are at least be nice, quote some figuresor phrase realistically.
