the article is good, but i hate this "manufactured" boy and girl group line.
oh yeah!!!BIGBANG and 2NE1 always always leads the way for kpop! Own it YG!

    • mek0

i agree but sadly it's true. if not all, then most groups are manufactured. companies basically control them. ofcourse there are those groups that are the exception :)

  • NESTOP

    BIGBANG and 2NE1!YEAH!YG FTW,lol

is girls' generation really made of artists like bigbang? i'm not sure, but still it may be a good news, it means many other great musicians of korea can get their way to be popular abroad. so.. is kpop really getting popular? just curious.. as a fan.

    • mek0

well the word "artist" can have different meanings to everyone. for me, musically speaking, to be called an artist is to be able to run their creative minds by making their own songs. to be specific, writing, composing, producing. which is why i love bigbang. as for girls generation, they don't do that. so i don't put them under the category of "artists". i'm pretty sure a few of the members are capable of doing it, but it seems like their company doesn't let them or they're just too busy to do so.

as for kpop, it's definitely getting bigger. but to say it's getting popular is debatable.

      • sarajgh

That would mean Big Bang are the only artists in kpop (with the Wonder Girls, I guess).

        • mek0

actually, brown eyed girls are artists too. its just that no one seems to notice it, sadly...im glad yenny is composing and writing but i would love to see a few of the other members do it too.

their just being jelly beans lol xD

  • linunrata

When an international media outlet talks about K-pop phenomena , the mostly used reference photo is Big Bang's EMA win which is one of the iconic moments in Kpop history IMO!

It's a good article but I find labeling K-pop girl and boy bands as “manufactured” products quite unpleasant when you talk about human beings!

  • Jaydeisvip

This made me choke up abit tbh i dunno why. I'v just loved K-pop for so long and i'm so glad it's getting recognized so people who criticized what music i listen too by using the lame excuse of 'You can't even understand them' IN YOUR FACE! i'm not as narrow minded to let something as petty as language stand in the way of a great song <3 K-pop deserves to be world widely known!

  • BBbaby

the only kpop band who I like and listen everyday is BB.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/elanieyzww blackvip

see people. kpop article on CNBC. facepalm to those who say the kpop is a crap, and the idols are all depends on plastic surgery and all. people around me including friends & family always say i'm a weird coz i keep listen to kpop, and Bigbang especially of course, even i didn't understand a single word of it.
now, whoever say so, READ THIS ARTICLE. even Bieber was asked to move over lol

it's a shame though that the more international fame K-pop gets, the less KPOP the songs sound like and the more Westernized they become.

Today, song's like Gee, Gojitmal, Sorry Sorry would probably not have been as big hits or not sounded like they did back when k-pop didnt try to get too western.

Personally, I don't like what's happening. I like the old k-pop sound more than the new one. It stood out more from the competition

    • choomseukaaa

that is so true. i like how BIGBANG is going far and such, but i dont want kpop to go to mainstream because then its just not fun anymore. its awesome that kpop is going global, but seriously, i dont wnt it to turn out like dubstep to the point where its in every commercial. and i hope they keep it korean style, not western stuff like sex, drugs, money, and strippers and whatnot. Wonder Girls "Like money", just no. its a catchy song but the lyrics are just ugh. i really hope that "Kpop" takes over as "Kpop" not American style "KPOP"

      • https://twitter.com/#!/HirooNakamura Hiroo Nakamura

personally, i dont mind the videos or lyrics being a bit more racy. It's the sound that i think has changed too much to sound like western pop now.

        • choomseukaaa

i obviously didnt write this as clearly as i meant, sorry lol. what i mean is that almost eveybody knows what dubstep is. but not everyone knows what kpop is. i dont want kpop to be known by everyone. it just kinda ruins the fun. and plus, kpop can be listened to kids even younger than 10 because its not about all of this racy stuff. i dont mind it really, but i dont want it to be all about that. i hope that clears everything up, if not, most of it.

  • florizza

Aw yeaaaaaaah. How awesome is this?! KPop has really taken the music industry by surprise. Go go go BIGBANG!!!!
