Indie Bands Respond Negatively to Big Bang ′Re-Monster′ Project

Things aren’t looking too good for Big Bang’s new project with Hyundai Card.

As revealed on June 5, Big Bang and Hyundai Card announced a new project where they asked indie bands to create a reinterpretation of Big Bang’s newest hit Monster.

The winner of the contest would be able to produce a digital album with YG Entertainment, as well as use the new music distribution program made by Hyundai Card for indie bands to independently manage the profit of their music.

While the initiative of the collaborative project was thought to be a good way for indie bands to get their names known in the music industry, the response from these bands haven’t been so positive.

Various indie band companies have been criticizing this project, saying it is a plan created by a large firm, who do not understand the indie musicians who are playing for the love of music.

One company executive said, “I don’t know how great this Monster song is, but I don’t understand their motives when they say, ‘hey, remake this song, and we’ll give you money.’”

They also added, “It would be better for the company to support the indie musicians and their self-composed songs.”

Aside from negative responses, some indie bands showed interest in participating in the competition, leaving the success of this large-scale project open-ended.

If they cared so little, or thought it was not worth participating in/doing.....why did they bother to comment about it and learn about the project in the first place? I think haters are just hating cause they can....and as the commercial shows and as stated in the article, some groups obviously think it is worth it....

I think we will have to see what happens from here on out till the contest finishes.....haters gonna hate....we just have to be strong VIP and Support till whenever, forever.

aiiissshhhh.......everyone has his own opinion in things in life,,,but why do they have to write an article about the negative feedbacks of something great....did they write about the neative feedbacks of people that dislike generation girls and super junior?? and lady gaga or justin bieber???,geeessshhh mnet,,grow up?!!!!!....not really surprised about the news of mnet...bigbang is most of the time if not always,, underestimated in their award nominations,,,...seems like mnet treat sm artists their allies or something...the trendy 20's award is one super perfect example,,
one more thing,,if you don't like somthing,,then don't participate instead of tainting something realllyyyy goood,, with bad insecure comments......goodness!!!,,,IU and hundreds of artists remake or do cover of songs to be recognized somehow somewhere,,and there's nothing wrong to do that to reach successs!!!,,,and this golden opportunity is being negatively accepted???,,,damn....insecurity and pride can do a lot of shitty stuffs in humankind....

i suppose in some way the indie bands has reason to be protective of their own circle...
but compared, it used to be like that about 10 years ago here in Malaysia, too. then some group of people found (or more or less innovated) a new way to "expand" the local underground scene without exploiting their environment and/or without turning them mainstream. and boom, the underground scene went lateral. their reach was bigger, their listening crowd was greater, but their freedom was their own. these bands, some of them even garnered awards and went global, but remain indie in their own essence.

i think, if these Korean indie bands looked further overseas...it's going on right now in most parts of the music world. they know about this, i'm sure. but somehow maybe because of the new Korean culture, there is reason for these indie bands to be a little apprehensive. and it's healthy to do so. they will learn soon that YG is bringing a new beginning to these underground groups and solo acts. i think he may just revolutionize the whole idea of their music industry. but it takes small subtle steps...

after all, there will always be those who looks past the horizon and jumps. and then, there are those who waits until they know it's safe, and then join in the fun.

i LOVE this... they showed 3 examples yet different versions of MONSTER and ALL turned out amazing..when i first heard that Mnet wrote an article how indie bands responded negatively, i thought that was just uncalled for.. their are loads of kpop artist who experienced bad things in their career yet they able to write only negative stuff about BB... life is just unfair... oohhh ATM, my favourite version is the second one cuz its fun n happy... the others are excellent too..

Totally in love with the first two versions, especially the one with the guys singing in the park! They made the song sound so cheerful which I never would be possible since the song is kinda sad. haha Not really loving the rock version cuz well... I'm not exactly a huge fan of rock music.
