EMA-Inspired Last-Minute Halloween Costumes

So it’s down to the wire and you still haven’t come up with any ideas for this year’s Halloween costume? No worries! Take some inspiration from the many 2011 MTV EMA nominees with signature style…that is surprisingly easy to copy on the cheap. In fact, you can probably throw together any one of these looks by raiding your own closet, your roommate’s, and/or your parents’. (OK, and maybe picking up a wig.)

To maximize the celebrity-lookalike effect (and deflect “You totally just threw that together at the last minute, didn’t you?” remarks), enlist your equally procrastinatory friends to join you in a group costume.

LMFAO
Wild wigs; oversize white-frame glasses; equally oversize colored T-shirts; still more oversize chain necklace and medallion; and baggy jeans: Boom, you and your BFF will be party rockin’ on Halloween night.

Jessie J
Black hair with blunt-cut bangs, black eyeliner, black lipstick, a black leather jacket, a black dress, black fishnets…and a black cast on one foot. That’s all it takes to transform you into Britain’s breakout pop star of 2011!

Eminem
This costume is more about attitude than accessories. Just cock your baseball cap and walk around in a white T-shirt, baggy jeans, and sneakers. If some hapless partygoer dares to ask, “Who are you supposed to be?” or “Is that even a costume?”, scowl darkly and snap, “I’m ***** Eminem, *****! Don’t ***** with me!”

Katy Perry
The possibilities are pretty much endless! So if your engineering skills aren’t up to devising a bustier that shoots whipped cream, do the lazy girl’s Katy costume by simply dyeing a blonde wig pink and wearing candy-colored makeup, plus the figure-hugging and/or wacky ensemble of your choice.

Big Bang
Round up a posse of pals to go out together in sleek black suits with pops of bright color peeking out: think gloves or a dress shirt. Voila—you’re Korea’s hottest boy band in their latest style incarnation. So what if they’re not a household name in your nabe? In a year, your friends will remember how totally ahead of the curve you were.

Selena Gomez
This one’s a no-brainer: Copy the rapper look from her MTV EMA teaser with a flannel shirt, a bandana, jeans, and gold hoop earrings—though for going out in public on the night when creeps tend to come out, a cropped tank is probably a wiser bet than a bra. For bonus points, have a lookalike friend don a girlie white flowy top and black shorts to play the sweet side of Selena.
