Japanese public opinion criticizes G-Dragon [NEWS]

Posted by on October 13, 2011

For those who are tired of the issue and think it's inappropriate to post this article here, you can just ignore and skip this post. Sorry!

G-Dragon’s marijuana incident is currently heating up Japanese public opinion. Celebrities, socialites, and legal specialists are criticizing G-Dragon’s weak explanation. In a nutshell, they are arguing that “I didn’t know” and “I received marijuana” is too senseless or lacks common sense. They disagree with the fact that only two puffs of marijuana will give you a positive result on a drug hair test. Finally they are also criticizing the fact that all the responsibility was given to a Japanese individual, and questioning whether G-Dragon is really showing any remorse for the incident or not.

The Japanese Media

The Japanese media followed G-Dragon’s marijuana incident closely.

On “Nihon TV” they criticized G-Dragon’s explanation, “If you hold marijuana it is very different from cigarettes, how could somebody not tell the difference?” On “Fuji TV” the criticism was about the fact that marijuana smoke smells very different from cigarette smoke and is quite strong.

Japanese Lawyers: “A Positive Result on a Hair Drug Test Means He Is a Habitual User”

The criticism about the drug hair test is that two or three puffs of marijuana two months ago should not appear on a drug hair test.

One lawyer stated on a TV show, “Habitual users of marijuana will show a positive on a drug hair test. It is odd that G-Dragon received a positive result when he only took two puffs. Because the test wasn’t taken in Japan I can’t say anything more, but anyone with common sense will think that it is a bit strange.”

Japanese Netizens “Don’t Blame a Japanese Person”

Japanese Netizens that criticize G-Dragon are saying the following, “Why are you dumping off the responsibility to a fan,” “Why would you accept a cigarette from a stranger, you wouldn’t just accept a cigarette and say ‘thank you’ when you don’t know what is in the cigarette, there is no Japanese individual who would believe this excuse,” “G-Dragon is arguing that he received marijuana from a Japanese individual but it doesn’t change the fact of substance abuse, he needs to show more remorse.”

One representative of J-Pop stated, “I don’t know why Big Bang is catering so much to fans. YG Entertainment should have made sure that their artists knew what to do and what not to do. In clubs one must be most cautious about drinks and cigarettes. If he was not given a warning, it proves how ignorant YG Entertainment is.”

What I'm curious about is that 'japanese fan'. Where the heck is he?? I miss GD a lot and I think it would be good if he could at least speak up in public about the issue. I'm a huge fan but I also want to know the truth.

stay strong GD. I love you no matter what. :)

  • yglady257

ONE THING IS FOR SURE. I AM ON G DRAGON'S SIDE.

  • sanctuary1718

    THIS IS BULLSHIT. FOR REAL.

"... there is no Japanese individual who would believe this excuse" OF COURSE THERE WOULD BE NO JAPANESE WHO WILL BELIEVE THIS BECAUSE HE IS YOUR FELLOWMEN!! YOU WILL SIDE WITH HIM AND NOT WITH A FOREIGNER!!

BUT MY GOSH. SOMETIMES BEING A NATIONALIST IS NOT GOOD. YOU'RE NOT HEARING THE SIDE OF THE ACCUSED. AND EXCUSE ME, WHERE THE HELL IS THAT PERSON WHO GAVE THE CIGARETTE TO GD?? HE SHOULD BRAVELY COME OUT OF HIS SHELL AND STATE THAT THERE'S NO MARIJUANA IN THAT CIGARETTE SO THAT YOU CAN TRULY SAY THAT GD IS A HABITUAL SMOKER OF THE WEED.

FOR GOODNESS SAKE. PROTECTING SOMEONE BEC. OF FELLOWSHIP AND NOT SEEING THE SIDE OF THE ACCUSED IS REALLY FRUSTRATING AND DISAPPOINTING.

REALLY SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER EXIST IN THIS WORLD.

AND JUDGING YG ENTERTAINMENT BECAUSE THEY GO TO CLUB?? CAN'T THEY EVEN DO THAT FOR THEIR OWN SAKE??? C'MON PEOPLE! THEY'RE ALSO HUMANS WHO WANT TO ENJOY THEIR LIFE IN FULLEST. IF THAT'S HOW THEY DO IT, THEN DON'T SAY THAT IT'S BAD OR SOMETHING COZ' GOING TO A CLUB IS NEVER BEEN BADDD!! IT'S FOR PEOPLE WHO WANTS TO HAVE SOME FUN!!!

AND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW YG PERSONALLY. MY GOSH.

  • valxuan

I think the pain that Ji Yong has to endure is just too much. Hope time will help him heal.

As a fan, friends of mine tell me off by saying that I am mindless to side my idol...saying that he is a drug user BUT I still stand by GD's side.
Yes, he made a mistake. Does that mean that he shouldn't be given a chance?! The Korean authorities gave him a chance, why can't others do the same?!
When he does good, people just praise him. When he does bad, people brush his good deed off and step on him.

I just hope that he is given another chance and I stand by GD!

  • http://twitter.com/twelvejan two elf (마야)

To a certain extent, they may have a point. Then again, I'm no drug specialist.

But I just find it sad and disheartening. When you're at the top, everyone wants to be your friend. Everyone wants to be associated with you. But when you made a single mistake, everyone else will take the opportunity to pull you all the way down to the ground, making things worse than it already is. People find every opportunity to make matters worse than it already is.

  • muggledore

Wow. The Japs are pissed. If I think about this logically, they actually have a point in some of their arguments but since the investigators from previous articles can't prove that GD's claim is false then we are left with the dilemma: WHO DO WE BELIEVE?

    Well, I believe in GD.

But honestly? I think he should do a public apology.
I think the public deserves it, either haters or supporters.

  • Harunokireinahana

i don't care if GD's hair test is positive..
and i never care of thoose japanese people..
i still trust to gd, bigbang and YG family...
    so, whatever they say i just wanna shut their mouth with 2NE1 song "i don't care..e e e e e"

  • Kt

When will these issue going to die off??

    BE strong GD..

  • rah

ok i'm a bit confused. according to online info, a hair test can detect marijuana use from up to 3 years ago. (note that marijuana is also a lot easier to detect than other illegal drugs). If that is true, then 2 puffs from a couple of months ago can also be detected. Plus, black hair absorb drugs more readily than any other hair.

All this would explain why the hair test showed up positive, but in the TINIEST amount. If he was a habitual user, then it'll show up positive in his urine test, but it didn't.

  • http://twitter.com/rainmeiyee Mei Yee

well u dont only have japanese fans....you have VIPS from ALL AROUND THE WORLD......honestly...although they have their point..... but those are lawyers right...why dont they have some doctors to clarify the point whether the drug stay or not....? =.= gd has done many great things, giving happiness and living up our souls through great music...drug is not a simple mistake i know...but he is a human after all.... he knows what he is doing..i guess he dont need to explain everything precisely to all.....  if those that did great crime are not punished and criticize this much....does GD deserves all this?  well you might say this is the price that a celebrity or idol should/have to pay......

  • rah

haha that's what i was thinking, since when were lawyers experts on hair testing

  • Gem

I feel like YG's tactic of ignoring an issue isn't going to work this time. Even as a fan, I feel that their press release before isn't enough. I want this issue to die down like everybody else here but it seems like Korea and Japan just won't let this go. I'm sad the GD will forever be associated with this issue but what can we do.. Authorities have already said that GD isn't going to get punished for this so I don't think an explanation can do any harm.

I just hope everything works out for the best :(

  • lev

I think the Japanese media is too defensive on this issue because of the fact that one of their citizen is involved.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but from the reports on K-media that I've read, they're not dumping ALL of the responsibility on this scandal on the Japanese fan.  It's GD that they're criticizing and not the Japanese fan.

Also, if GD is a habitual user as they seemed to be implying, shouldn't his urine test be positive as well?

you're right.. thats we call LIFE.. But, there's a good side in it.. in your down moment,, you'll see whose real to you..
I'm a fan, and I hurt badly while reading this article,, If I were hurt.. how much more GD..?? STAY STRONG GD.....

  • SexyLeader

Since the beginning I thought YG statement was pretty lame, They should have done a better job, not mentioning the japanesse fan so much and not making GD look like some poor innocent kid, the statement just came out really fake. It could have been worded better.

  • Funkyprank

    Omg the japanese!!
Can tell the difference by holding it?!
THEY ARE IN A FREAKING CLUB! AND WHEN THEY GO TO CLUB...THEY DRINK!! Maybe GD was not fully sober when he took the marijuana!
And let me tell you why he dunno the differences between marijuana and cigarette, BECAUSE HE NEVER TOUCH MARIJUANA BEFORE!!

He is not blaming the japanese fan, cause IT IS THE JAPANESE GUY FAULT!
It is very rude to not accept a person's gift, not to mention a fan's gift!
And also HE IS IN A CLUB! they smoke and drink IN THE CLUB! Taking a cigarette is normal!!

Nobody is perfect! People make freaking mistakes every now and then! You cant judge a person by that ONE mistake! GD had done so many nice things and you just LOOK AT THE 1 BAD THING AND START TO JUDGE HIM WITH THAT! Its not fair to GD!!

Just face the fact that the stupid japanese guy gave him the marijuana and face the fact that GD only smoked a little amount of it! HE WOULD NOT GET JUST A WARNING IF HE SMOKED PACKS OF IT!!!!

  • muggledore

Now that I think about it, i wanna get back at all those haters sooooo bad!!!
Know what will be a good way to shut up all the haters???
Make them win in MTV EMA!!!!

I'm venting all my angers and frustrations in that site!!!!

  • Gem

    Sad but i agree.

  • Pikajojo

    =.= japanese fans are annoying.

  • kim

I strongly believe that jiyong is telling the truth. Besides what does he get from telling lies? Also, they shouldn't be criticising anyone before knowing what actually happened. It's not like they were at the scene where it all happened. Oh gosh, the reason why i dislike media.

  • zakura

they are not japanese fans :(

  • ShortLegOppa

I'm so pissed at those Japaneses.
I'm not sure if they interview a few ahjummas who probably don't even know who GD is can represent the whole public opinion.
I don't know but i just feels like the Japaneses are blaming him because he is KOREAN and this is so sad.  The fact that why they care so much about this case and keep pointing on GD is because he received marijuana from a "JAPANESE individual".
I hope the JVIPs are still supporting him, GD said before that he loves Japan and he wants to make music there. If he knows the public is putting on these shit on him, I'm sure he will feel so sad.

i believe in him..if there are some people who don't, just leave bb..don't have to say any critics..that't cool..

  • http://twitter.com/manazine Hyewon Park

  • believeandsmile

Finally this article is translated. I had read it 3 days ago. The original is also mention about "Japanese worry GD will be caused for the young people follow. That's why they are considering maybe they will suspend all activities of Big Bang in Japan.

  • Gdgdbabe

why this article was posted here?

  • fenina de leon

from what i know, if someone has been a habitual user, it will DEFINITELY SHOW on their urine tests. even if you only take in a small amount, it takes a number of days before you successfully flush it out your system. in GD's case, the urine test even came BEFORE the hair tests, but it still came out negative. people also keep saying that hair tests are more accurate and can detect small amounts -- so if we take this logic, and take into account the fact that the urine test came out negative but only the hair test positive, then we have reason to believe that it really WAS just only a small amount.

  • big5bang

PEOPLE! SERIOUSLY! >:( G-DRAGON IS A HUMAN BEING TOO! IT DOESN'T MEAN IF HE IS FAMOUS AND EVERYTHING HE'S NOT A HUMAN! PEOPLE SMOKE MARIJUANA EVERYDAY WHY DON'T YOU BLOODY JUDGE THEM! GOD FIRST THE KOREAN MEDIA AND NOW THE JAPANESE MEDIA! WHY DON'T ALL THE BLOODY MEDIA AROUND THE WORLD MAKE A LINE AND WAIT TILL IT'S THEIR TURN JUDGE HIM! YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY A SINGLE CENT, YOU ASK WHY! CAUSE YOU BLOODY WILL BE MAKING MONEY BY JUDGING A PERSON FOR SOMETHING "EVERYONE" DOES! Well, they were in Japan... in a japanese club.. so the chance, that it wasn't a japanese stranger that gave him that manipulated cigarette, would have been very small! So jp citizens  should stop being pissed abt him, telling that it was actually a japanese stranger. It's a fact - deal with it!

And the: “If you hold marijuana it is very different from cigarettes, how could somebody not tell the difference?”
Excuse me?! If someone puts marijuana into regular tabac, puts i filter on and uses one of these little 'machines' to roll it.... damn it looks like a f***** common cigarette! How will you tell the difference in a (more or less) dark, smelly club - filled with smoke??? Sry  but: hypocites!!!

I agree on the point, that it was a mistake to take anything from a stranger in general. But ppl make mistakes, none of us is perfect!

I wish those citizens /haters / anti's & trolls (also in korea), would just should up & care about their own affairs! I'm sure their lifes aren't flawless either...

*sry for the little rant.... i just had to let it out... ;)

Its not like he's ADDICTED to it... So Japzz people, even if he has taken it knowingly,he's just having fun..It's his life..who cares...Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Marilyn Monroe, Heath Ledger, Elvis Presley and the list goes on...they died of drugs and alcohol..no one criticizes them.. they are still stars.. GET OVER IT.

  • http://twitter.com/MonikaSophia 모니카

Wahhhh Japanese people... don't criticize so much... so what if he knew what he was doing, so what if he lied a little to clear himself, i still believe he's being honest... True fans shouldn't backlash! Get a grip people... this makes me mad!!!!

  • Paandae

this is bad...this is just bad....yup, gotta admit that they have a point...not blaming them...

  • wintersecrets

I'm sure YG did give Gd a warning and reprimanded him which is why all of Gd's activities are cancelled.
Anyways, nothing fans can do now but support GD and hope he learned his lesson

If Gd/BB weren't famous in Japan before...

  • FunkyDevil

let us be logical here even if he did really know it's weed & he smoked it more than once they're idiots if they think he just can say "yes! I smoked weed & I know it's weed" Hello! it's Korea! not the U.S! Korean will not accept that at all because in Korea a celebrity = GOD! no 1 including normal people should do any mistakes! so, DUH! he'll say another story to survive in this country...it sad that they don't let people live their life without judging them yet & out of a sudden they want them to be honest??!! WTF!!!

  • Land

I think if he's lying, given his creativity (as demonstrated in his musical creation) he would be able to come up with a better reason for sure. Given YG's talent I highly doubt that the company will not know that the truth is so vulnerable. But facts are usually less structured. Only lies seem to be most reasonable as they are well thought out with an intention to hide the truth. So the more the media try to present supporting to doubt his words, the more I believe in his words.

Anyway I doubt any regular weed smoker will be tested positive with miniculous amount of drug during the test. Of course, he should not be accepting cigarettes from random stranger but seriously, this is the first time I heard a random someone handing 'poisoned' cigarette to another person. No one in club will expect someone to hand them a weed cigarette from a regular one.

  • Tinkle Bell

I think both sides are being equally defensive!

Maybe this article should be removed ? . . . . we are all hoping the matter will die down instead of stirring it up again.

  • citygirl

".....wow, do they really know the truth or they just asume it like everyone else...maybe that guy put an extra doses of marijuana in that cigarette....that's why the result come positive....who knows n do they really care about that guy...just because that guy happen to be Japanese...."

  • Kolkha

If it were one of your family members who took marijuana would you leave them? No. You just don't leave them. You get angry at them at some point but that's just because you truly care. I just want him to learn but I won't ever leave him. Because I treat him, them, as family.

If everyone would leave him, who would stay by him?  If all else fails, it would be a beautiful  feeling to know that there's always a home you could go home to. It's the family's role to stay with him. His own family, YG family, VIP family.

  • http://twitter.com/ImKARENA KARENA HO

He is not a Habitual user.  If he is,  there will be several positive effects on different lengths of his hair, not only one and small amount.  Anyway, I do not care about why or where he smoke.   I just know he is not a Habitual user, not a doper, not a criminal.

  • citygirl

Seriously, the issue is getting worse because of the people (not pointing fingers to anyone) with minds which are closed. Piece of unsolicited advice, be open minded. What part of 'he is not a user.' people don't understand?

I want to hear GD's own statement regarding this case....
    Supporting GD!

  • asdf

Sometimes I'm not really sure if people are fully aware that they are ruining a human's life with their judging. Look at the high rates of suicide cases in countries like Japan. Look at netizens responses like "He should just die". What if he does kill himself one day? I remember Seungri telling an interviewer about how he got a call from a broken GD crying intensely because he was told to commit suicide. How would people feel if it happens? Would they actually say it was good he did it? There is no way he is able to take so many hits from the public without having to kill of parts of his personality everytime he comes back so he won't be hurt again. The blows he has to ednure would be fatal to every other person I know.
For some reason the interviewed people are all convinced that they are in the position to say what is right and what isn't. None of them are scientists familiar with drug tests, yet here there are giving out an "educated" opinion. I doubt any of the interviewed people are saints themselves. They are questioning GDs common sense in a club, probably after having had some drinks, yet claim that every fan would senselessly follow their idol to become some kind of pothead, which he according to the police is not.
    I can't with people anymore.

  • k.wong

They seem very defensive. Like they are positive that Japanese people will do no wrong, which I understand because it's sort of like YG is accusing Japan. However, I do think that YG was stupid for mentioning it was a Japanese fan. If they just said "a fan" I think it wouldn't have escalated even more. I love GD, but his excuse that he smoked it because he didn't want to be rude seems kind of far-fetched. I mean, everyone is taught at least once not to talk to strangers and it's pretty common sense to not take anything from strangers either. I mean girls won't even drink their own drink if they left it at the bar. I also think that YG could have been more objective in their statement (which I understand is hard because he's directly under them but still). I know YG's job is to protect the image of their artists but I felt that the statement could have been much more genuine. However, the japanese critics should also check their facts, because his test was done in June (as said by the prosecutor), its just that the results came out in July. The fact that only trace amounts were found in his hair should indicate that it had been a while since he smoked it. I don't know if he's a habitual user or not, but it seems unlikely. At most he may be a social user.

Honestly though, I hate that they're saying he isn't showing remorse. Who are they to say that? Are they following him? Can they read his mind? Does he need to hold his head down for a certain period of time for you to believe that he is actually remorseful? He's already cancelled all his activities and that has already affected GD&TOP activities in Japan. I know he feels like shit, because who wouldn't? And who is to say that he isn't reading all these damn articles, and feeling even worse about everything? There's even a site with all the compiled articles, and the comments are all telling him to go kill himself. That's disgusting and cruel. And I hate that they talk like they know everything about him, but you really only know what he wants to show. Do they know what happens behind closed doors? I'm 100% sure YG would have given him a warning, knowing how much he parties. And after this incident, YG would definitely keep a closer eye on him.

Agh. I'm just so angry that everything has escalated so fast. And I really hope to God that allkpop will not find this and post it because people will just start trolling and criticizing.

  • http://profiles.google.com/chalhee.k Chal Hee

U know how much he loves his VIPs... But this is it? Is this how u treat him when he is in trouble? HE IS A GUY WHO WENT TO U(JAPAN) IN THAT FREAKIN WEATHER TO KEEP HIS PROMISE AND MAKE U GUYS HAPPY? This is his turn and u r saying what? Everyone can make a mistake once in their life... R U sure about what happened? R U freakin sure? Even the police said he is not a habitual user.. so why? R U saying Japanese is better than Korean police or what?? Is this ur real face, fake VIPs? Huh? If we (real VIPs ) see him cry... I'm not sure what would happen JAPAN!!!!!

  • Janine H

As much as I love BIGBANG and G-Dragon, Japan's reasoning to be skeptical is legitimate. When YG first made their statement and G-Dragon said that he got it from a stranger/fan/someone at the club I was skeptical as well. Why /would/ anyone take a cigarette from a stranger, or a fan no less? There have been /plenty/ incidents with idols where people have claimed to be fans, but were really antis and went out to ruin the star's reputation or even threaten/hurt the idol. Take Yunho from DBSK/TVXQ for example where a 'fan' put superglue into his drink. I definitely think that G-Dragon shouldn't have been so careless, and I'm a little disappointed that he used that as a cover up. Not that I'm exactly 'OK' that Japan is defending the man who gave him the cigarette, but I'm a little disappointed and shocked that GD took it if he hadn't intentionally wanted to smoke marijuana.

Another thing is that I don't think that GD just 'took a few puffs' either. Marijuana is different from a regular cigarette, so how could he not know? The smell is definitely different and I don't think GD is so innocent that he wouldn't know the difference. Idols/Celebrities can do what they want, smoke what they want, drink what they want or whatever since they're at legal age. I don't have a problem with him smoking because its his own life and we as fans, really have no control over what he smokes, what he drinks, who he dates or whatever. Its /his/ life. Some of the greatest artists ever are smokers. What bugged me about GD's statement is that not only is he trying to cover this up, is that he's not doing it very well.
Maybe, as BIGBANG fans, yes we should support him. But at the same time, we should step back and not hate on Japan because they /do/ have some leeway here. The evidence is there. GD likely smoked some weed, but who cares? He's still a fantastic artist.

  • anon

daaaaamn that's harsh. but uh... some of the comments about japan down here are sounding pretty ridiculous. cmon VIPs -_- do you honestly think big bang would want you to say those things??

honestly, I kinda think GD was smoking weed here and there... and that he cheated on the piss test. not even saying it's a bad thing, tbh I give him props lol.

seriously, in highschool I got in trouble for weed and for an entire year I had to take a drug test every month. I cheated several times by taking pills that flush the traces of weed out of your system, and I talked to a lot of other potheads about ways to cheat and a lot of the guys would talk about ways to sneak other people's pee in-- in a bottle, even in a balloon, there are even devices that are sold online for this specific purpose, forreal.

but at the same time, I don't think his story about unknowingly smoking it that once is implausible. It's one of those things where we'll never know. I hope it blows over soon and that GD is holding up well.

i know they feel irritated when they think GD's blaming their people, if he didn't mention that it was a Japanese, maybe they won't even criticize him that much. But looking at the big picture, GD only said ONE sentence about the person and he's not even sure if it's a fan, he just THINKS it's a fan. Sometimes things get worst when you over-analyse it. However, it's reasonable that the Japanese people are worried about the negative effect it will bring to the younger generation.

And I think's inappropriate to ask random people on the street about the issue, I sort of feel like they're trying to 'recruit' people to criticize him. Of course when you tell a Japanese that someone other than a Japanese blamed a Japanese on something negative, they'll feel offended in some way. Just like others have said, maybe those people don't even know about what's happening.
I believe GD isn't ignorant about accepting things from strangers/maybe-a-fan. I guess it's courtesy to accept an offer, especially when you know that they know who you are. Also, the public doesn't even know the details of what really happened when GD got the 'cigarette'. Did the cigarette really looked like a normal cigarette? Or did it looked different? The same thing: GD only said A sentence about it 'smelling different'. Maybe the person who offered it was standing beside him? and most likely would have lit the cigarette for him?
When you attempt to reconstruct the scenario, there are SO MUCH to take into account. That's why nothing's right or wrong until this point because everyone (the public) is just guessing. Maybe GD was careless and need to reflect on his actions too. No one knows.
And of course, despite how much I discourage smoking and drugs, I know that I would and most VIPs would, support GD to go through this.

  • sunshine

So, you wanted him to lie? He was asked about the story and he answered, is that a bad thing? Also, it happened in Japan, of course it was given to him by a Japanese fan, just fucking accept it. Have they forgotten that the police took a tip from someone anonymous to make a drug test on Gd as soon as he came back from Japan which was a few days later after the party? Come on, it doesn't take too much brain to understand that he was framed. To tell the truth i don't see it like a big deal that he accepted the cigarette, i mean he was at a party and i am sure he was kinda drunk,\ it has happened to the best of us to act kinda carelessly but is it worth it to destroy someone's life over a momentarily mistake?
One last thing, if he was indeed a regular smoker then why did the amount found was so small that it wasn't even considered punishable ???? Why don't they ever make such questions ? Aren't they quite logical too ? Give the boy a break and don''t act as if he is going to ruin your children's lives.

  • VVIPforSeungRi

I think we all decided as much, Ji shouldn't gave taken the cigarette, shouldn't have smoked it. But to accuse him of being a habitual smoker based on incorrect evidence (positive results CAN come from a few puffs) and then to accuse YG of being ignorant? I think the Japanese media is being more ignorant right now...

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QYXHG4P3EJEFBJ5ZSQGITTBONA Pahuway

well i hope you can forgive him...I'm sure he learned from this...

  • hmm

of course most of the Japanese wouldn't accept his reasoning because it happened in their country and a random Japanese guy was being accused as the culprit. If you love your country you would do the same even though it does happen.

About the positive hair result was rare when your not a habitual user, i don't know. but why did they let him off the hook? the public doesn't now every bit of this story after all..

I think YGE knows this thing but maybe they didn't expect this things to happen...

all of the fans are going to argue again and again and again!!

  • Dinkybear92

THIS IS HORSES**T! Why is GD taking the full blame for this?

Why are Japanese saying that the Japanese person who gave the cigarette - AND KNEW THE CIGARETTE WAS LACED WITH MARIJUANA - is NOT to blame? He KNEW the smoke had marijuana in it when he offered it to GD! He knew GD was a kpop idol and a major celebrity! HE DID THIS ON PURPOSE!

I don't care what ANYONE says the Japanese who gave GD the cigarette is as much to blame. COZ HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING.

Why are the Japanese turning a blind eye to this fact? It seems to me that they are ignorant to this and do not want any problems for their precious country! PFT! Drugs and sex go on EVERYWHERE open your eyes Japanese people and STOP blaming GD, when you SHOULD be blaming the culprit who gave him the smoke and KNEW it was marijuana.

I am so annoyed and so upset about this. My heart is breaking for GD.

  • Whimsical

Gd shares drinks with peoplein clubs - as seen in the fancams at the high high party. I believe we would accept a cigarrette off someone in a club.  ever thought he is used to fans (who lets face it are strangers) giving him things and if it looks like a normal cigarrette why question it too much. People who smoke do frequently offer their cigarrettes around.
Also marijuana can be diguised and if mixed with other aromatic chemcials may not be as easy to detect - You also assume that just cause he's smart he'd know what marijuana smells like.
He might not be "covering it up very well" is because he's telling the truth.
I do not hate on Japan, I like Japan and know some great people from there although I am disappointed about the lies they are publlising on the media about the meaning of the drug test and there are many crediable scientific studies that contradict what their saying. The basic facts say  GD is not a habitual user.
Your stance maybe that you don't care but in Asia Muscians/ Idols/ Public figures are taken as role models because they put them on pedestals (whether the artists wants it or not) and they take it very seriously. As an international fan we should respect what other people's cultures and views are, especially if we want to support artists from that part of the world.  GD and Big Bang are in a critical period at the moment after Daesung and now GD's incident their support and public opinion of is dropping. If it gets worse endorsers may start backing out and they may fade to the back ground and barely get their song's released or as much money put into them. Next year YG is brining out more groups, Big Bang need the support to show their still a great investment.

  • Cloebella

i agree with everything you said!!!! the japanese man who gave gd the marijuanna knew what it was. he could easily have offered gd an ordinary cigarette but he didnt he gave him one with marijuanna in it.

    he is to blame.

  • fwaka

You are right, the Japanese person COULD have given GD an ordinary cigarette but chose to give him the marijuana!

  • Whimsical

I am sure the jeopardy he's put the group and other artists of the company and YG in is plaguing him sleepless.  However from the sounds of things Japan has not got all the correct facts which has led to some of them making incorrect statements (e.g. the tests were done in June, soon after the incident, not July or October.)  the media seems set on skewing this against GD who could plausiably have been tricked and set up. Adviceably, save your anger for his official statement, right now we don't really know enough to judge him fairly

One lesson I've learned: People are fickle. One minute they are putting you up on a pedestal, praising you, the next, they are pulling the ladder from underneath your feet, and kicking you while you are down. So what to do? Just go about your business determinedly, and do what fulfills YOU.  If people like it, great; but if they don't, they can just move right on. You can't please everyone. Just learn from your experiences, and prove haters wrong by becoming better and better with each hardship and challenge. Talk is cheap. Everyone can run their mouths. GD's CV speaks for itself. He's making an impact in his field, and if I'm right about him, he's not going to stop any time soon. You can't keep a determined person down.

"Because the test wasn’t taken in Japan" - Ph well if the test wasn't done in the mighty Japan then it must be dubious. F*** OFF!

"G-Dragon is arguing that he received marijuana from a Japanese
individual but it doesn’t change the fact of substance abuse, he needs
to show more remorse" - HE DIDNT KNOW IT WAS POT!

"If he was not given a warning, it proves how ignorant YG Entertainment is." - Oh really? YG is ignorant because one of their idols is being set up for drug abuse? Again F*** OFF! YG sends a lot of money the Japanese way - if it wasn't for bands like Big Bang going over there, they'd have no entertainment, because their own artists are rubbish.

im worried for gd, the controversy of plagiarized music really affected him. now we have this. there is possibly a very good chance that he is not going to be in japan anytime soon. and since they but yg under blast, yg family might not be making music for the japanese fans either. although they do make some strong points. i have this felling that is they tested all artists in the music industry  for both japan and korea, they would probably find bigger drug use in japan. thats just my opinion.

  • ilovetabi

i don't think GD actually blamed the japanese who gave him the marijuana...he only explained how he got it!. ugh!

Why don't you calm down and think for a while.Do you think that GD did it on purpose? Do you think that he is feeling good after what happened? Give me a break and stop judging him based on some rumors. From  my point of view  lots of idols do some silly and illegal stuff, they are just lucky they aren't found out. Gd wasn't that lucky because simply everything was done purposely to bring him down.

  • Jungjiyoo

OK , people. I don't think this is an appropriate time to define whether he's guilty or not. We fans and media are not law people. AND THE LAW HAS ALREADY BEEN DECLARED

I know that maybe his statement makes Japanese people pissed off.. But they can't just say blame GD and support the Japanese guy.. I mean, come on.. This is real life.. What if GD's statement is true that the Japanese fan gave him?? They can't just support Japanese people even if they did wrong..
Another thing is that how come some fans can be so cruel to him.. He always gives his best to every single thing for his fans.. They always praise him if he did a great jobs,, but now they turn into his enemies just because he smoked MJ.. My question is how can you say you are his fan?? Fans should always stay beside him and care about him,, not judge him and throw him away.. I know that what he has done was wrong,, but as a fan,, you should tell him that it's wrong and forgive him because we know that GD always learn from his mistakes..
From my perspective,, a true fan,, will cheers their idols when they are on top and support them to climb up when they fall or at the bottom.. I'm so happy that he still has many fans that support him even though haters will bash us for being delusional or whatever it is
I hope he's fine,, I can't imagine how does he feel when he read this article,, since it hurts me a lot when I it

    Stay Strong GD

  • (^o^)

I know you support GD and big bang, and so do I. I love their songs, their creativity and their lively performances. But how could we be blind to their mistakes? When your kid or family does something wrong, you would also be objective and say that's wrong and correct them, let them know that they are wrong and learn from their mistakes.

We must look at the entire situation objectively and not blame/support japanese or GD entirely without any basis. GD did something wrong. That's a fact. Japanese netizens are pointing out a fact that the way YG or GD is explaining the entire situation made it seem as though 1) they are putting the blame on the individual alone and 2) GD accepts the puff from strangers easily without much thought and 3) he doesn't know it's marijuana even though it's supposed to smell very different and 4) he doesn't seem to show any remorse (from the fact that even after he knew privately when results were out, he continued his activities actively only until the day the news broke out then YG says he feels guilty and needs time off. and also he did not publicly apologize yet). I'm not saying whether he is or is not actually feeling remorseful, but rather what it seems now as a result of all their actions.

Whether we like it or not, those 4 points above do indeed make YG's stand and explanation of the entire situation seem very weak. and therefore the japanese are just saying it is a weak explanation.

There is not much point in hating this group or hating that group because until the involved parties (be it the japanese guy or GD) come out clean and explain honestly, and until new concrete information (not rumors or 3rd party interviews/information) arise, the fact is that currently the whole picture painted by YG seems as though they are pushing a lot of the blame to just the random individual.

  • dtechnolife

the whole of Japan isn't anti BIGBANG like, get a grip girl.

This statement has some truth in it. It is curious in its nature. Japan just wants to protect its name. A korean, doing illegal things in a Japanese state. Try to think from that angle and not just a biased, true fan angle. Making this kind of post, hating on all of Japan for a single Big Bang member, who we know is right now in the wrong (until proven otherwise), just to "protect" your idol, is kind of immature, don't you think so? STOP being so irrational.

A true fan accepts his/her idols mistakes, deals with critizism in a civilized-manner, analyzes things before posting such a hateful comment.

This is not a time to argue amongst ourselves.. As much as I hate the fact that they are criticizing GD here, I can't deny that they have a point. JVIPs might not like him at the current moment, and (some) KVIPs probably don't either. But as dedicated VIPs, we should stay strong for GD, because he really needs it at this time.

GD, I don't care if you abused yourself with drugs and alcohol, the only harm you did to was to yourself. You wrote beautiful songs, created amazing music, donated your own money to a children's hospital on your own birthday after refusing gifts from your fans, protected a child from getting hurt at one of your concerts, took some of your time to visit a mini GD and gave him toys and still manage to give your all at every concert your perform.
    Don't care, I'm supporting GD.

Hyewon this is a good statement. I think not a lot of international fans or fans in general are thinking of the Japanese mannerisms. I don't know them but I have heard that it is impolite to not do certain things. In Japanese society it could be impolite to not take an offering. However, I'm hoping there are boundaries and exceptions, which is probably what most are saying. I will forever support GD though. I think what a lot of fans forget it we should support our idols for their talent.

well, we can't forget that the "fan" who gave him the "cigarette" was Japanese. There's probably someone out to get GD because they're jealous of his success!..nah, Just Kidding. But seriously though, who was that guy? Anyway, I'm sure GD has learned a lesson in all of this. I think people are making way to big a deal out of this. No need to cry over spilled milk. It's obvious that He isn't a regular user. His urine test was negative and there hair test was a VERY low positive. They need to calm their nuggets and take a chill pill. GD, FIGHTING!!

The fact that GD accepts the cigeratte from theat Jap fan just shows that he's naive.if i were him i would probably accept the cigeratte because i would think that my fan would not sabotage me if the cigeratte has marijuana.

  • (^o^)

    Hi popcorn29,

Yes, I totally agree with your points brought forth. The fact is that only a small amount of THC is tested positive and we are safe to 'assume' GD is definitely not a habitual smoker of weed.

Anyway based on the articles, I don't think majority of the japanese or general public are criticizing GD whether he is or is not a habitual smoker of weed and I don't think they are blaming GD for making a mistake, but rather they are just directing their disappointment towards the seemingly weak explanations given, or to them may seem like excuses.

Whether we like it or not, to us fans, we trust YG's statement and explanations and will continue to support them, but we have to admit that those explanations do seem very weak to the general public and to any neutral parties trying to understand the situation.

Both parties are responsible, not just GD or not just the japanese fan. And only when both parties are willing to come out clean and explain the situation, will we get a better picture. At this point of time, the lack of concrete information is causing misunderstandings on both sides and we should refrain from directing extreme emotions towards or condemning the Japanese or GD.

While some of us here may feel like condemning the Japanese, don't you all think that from their point of view, we are also being unreasonable? (Just like how we think the Japanese are reacting now, they are also thinking the same of us who supports GD.) These hateful sentiments will only cause more fault lines to form between the two parties and confuse matters further from the truth.

  • Linin@

Whatever happened i still support u KWON JIYONG aka G dargon ! BIGBANG FIGHTING !

  • smallserene

maybe there is alot of people smoking at the place and he inhale the second-hand smoke?

  • Janet Pernas

In my opinion, if you don't smoke weed, how can you tell if it smells differently and looks differently? Weed is not always green, weed doesn't always smell the same. I have a lot of friends who smoke, and I have friends in the military who smoked weed and indeed, two or three puffs is enough to come out positive, even if you're clean for a year or two and you decide to have a puff, it'll come positive on your hair follicle test. Now, a lot of weed can be rolled to look like a normal cigarette, and I'm not trying to defend G-Dragon here, I'm just tired of reading so much ignorance in the news about this issue. You can mistake weed for cigarette if you're drunk and if you smoke a lot. Anyone who's been around people who smoke knows how strong that smell is. People need to sit back and just chill out. ;D

  • popcorn29

On "Nihon TV" they criticized G-Dragon's explanation. "If you hold marijuana it is very different from cigarettes, how could somebody not tell the difference?" On "Fuji TV" the criticism was about the fact that marijuana smoke smells very different from cigarette smoke and is quite strong.

    ----

I used to smoke cigarettes a few years ago. I know what a joint looks like (based on pictures) but I've never seen one nor smelled it before. Once, an acquaintance of mine smoked pot near where I was sitting. We were just hanging out so the smell was really noticeable. I didn't see him smoking it but I could smell it. I was literally asking around what that smell was, for like 5 mins. when someone told me the truth.

My point is, we probably all know what a joint looks like, but we can't possibly know what it smells or tastes like until we experience it for ourselves. To think that I used to smoke cigarettes didn't even help me gain that "common sense" about weed.

We won't know for sure if GD was really aware that it was weed when he accepted it. It might even look like a genuine "cigarette" for all we know. We also have to remember that he was partying in a bar that time. He was probably drunk, or at the very least tipsy. Not to mention the smoke from all the smokers probably concealed the smell a bit. But my point is, it is possible that he was genuinely unaware how weed smells and tastes like. So, for all those who's saying that "he should have known" are too judgmental. If someone would offer me a normal looking cigarette with weed in it, I wouldn't even know unless I puffed it and smelled the smoke.

Nur Farah Ain is not retarted. Nur Farah Ain is not excusing GD's actions, its just pretty apparent that the Japanese fan had some involvement and the Japanese are saying GD should take responsibility, however what I think Nur Farah Ain is also pointing out, the Japanese are screaming this but yet we've heard nothing of the fan taking any responsibility. That wasn't a retarded post. It was a mature one pointing out both sides. You can't blame someone for not taking responsibility when they're not acknowledging the responsibility of one of their own people. I think you should think a little harder before you post about other people not being smart. Just because they don't see it from your perspective does not make them less intelligent. To be truthful you sound more like an anti and a hater. Why are you on a Big Bang site of you got no love for them? It is apparent in your post.

That being said, I wouldn't hate the Japanese people. I think it's annoying that they're responding in this light instead of acknowledging that there were two people that need to be held responsible. I love GD and he confessed. He's taking time off, he's trying to let it cool off. He shouldn't be the ONLY one in heat for this. If you're going to talk about fairness you should talk about it from all sides and not insult anyone Fwaka!

  • popcorn29

    Hi (^O^),

While it is true that based from all the articles released so far, experts differed in their opinion; their statements won't change the facts.

We won't be able to know for sure if that was indeed GD's first time smoking weed or if he's a habitual user. We won't even know if what he said was the truth or just a plain excuse to avoid punishment. But what we do know for a fact is that GD's hair drug test revealed only a tiny amount of THC that the prosecution decided not to indict him. And that his urine test came out negative.

I'm aware that some people cheat their way in the urine test but since (from what I understood) GD was suddenly summoned for the drug testing, I doubt it if he was able to "cleanse" his body first before doing those tests.

So regardless of GD's excuse/explanation of what happened, I think it is safe to say that at the very least, a few days before and during the drug testing, he wasn't a heavy user.

Just to be clear, I totally understand why the general public and even the Japanese media have suspicions. But I think it is unfair that people judge him too quickly, especially on the topic of remorse and "common sense" about weed.

I'm still not sure if it's right that the public feels like he owes us an apology just to show genuine remorse. I mean, it's not like he committed a huge crime like rape or drug trafficking, etc. that he endangered the lives of people. Maybe a direct statement from GD explaining his side of the story would suffice, but that's that. In my opinion, he doesn't owe us any apologies because it was an honest mistake that I hope won't happen again (assuming of course that he was telling the truth. If he wasn't, then that's a different story).

If he's going to ask for forgiveness (which I'm sure he already did), it should be directed to YG, YGE and to the rest of the BB because of the inconveniences and negative publicity this issue brought forth.

Instead of making a mountain out of a molehill (since he wasn't even indicted), I really hope that the media (both Korean and Japanese) would explain both sides of the story. It's not wrong to question the circumstances of GD's story, but if you're going to judge and criticize him, at least make sure that you have the correct facts (like what I've explained on my earlier comment) and interview the correct "experts".

Like what (^O^) said, we should all be patient and objective and wait for more concrete information.

At the end of the day, GD is just human and he'll get hurt from all the bad comments some people say. He made a mistake but I hope people, especially fans, won't be too judgmental and call him names and leave rude comments about him.

  • http://twitter.com/VIPBLACKJACKLOV Nunya Business

I agree with Jenn. I don't understand this thing, you're only remorseful if you take time off. You can take time off and not feel a damn thing. Not that GD would feel that way, guess that's a Korean/ Japanese thing that I won't understand cause I'm not either.
Secondly I have to disagree with Jenn on her point about...People in Japan Don't Do Drugs... um clearly they do if drugs were being passed around in the club. If we're going to be real we should be real on every thing. If there was no drugs in Japan there wouldn't be a case. That being said I'm not saying either that everyone does drugs. You should've said drugs are frowned on in Japan.

  • http://twitter.com/VIPBLACKJACKLOV Nunya Business

    Agreed completely.

  • Cath

With everything that happened, I think GD learned his lessons well (the hard way, in fact). I just wish for him to be very careful of the people he's dealing with may it be friends or total strangers.

exactly what i do think! but...ohmy~ yes, i need to blame GD for his lame excuse..it's not lame but more to...argghhh..is there any suitable word to be put here? GD, why owh why...love BIGBANG so much till I really want to punch GD hard on his face. I meant it but I couldn't do it eventhough if now he's happened to be in front of me. Urghh, GD, do give proper and full-of-respect answer regarding this issue...We love BIGBANG so much.

p/s : i'm a huge fan of TOP but i love BIGBANG more than ever and this marijuana thingy  of GD may lead BIGBANG to be on the verge of collapsing...TT_TT

  • Mle8

this is so freaking true! i love your reasoning, GD is not my number one in BB but i cant help it when ppl talk shhhhhh... about him

  • Ml8

Japanese ppl and the media from both korea and japan need to shut up and leave GD alone.

  • Ml8

I am international study major minor in Japanese. But now I'm so disappointed at Japanese ppl who are so freaking full of themselves. So they mean their ppl never do wrong/bad things, only Korean do? This is a selfish and irrational way of defense.

  • Marwa Elfawal

Okay seriosuly they need to get over this already. G-Dragon would NEVER do anything that would destroy his career. He loves doing it too much. And you know what, anyone can get some pot and make it look like a cigarette. The Japs need to stop feeling offended. He didn't blame a Japanese fan but A japanese. For all we know it was a hater or something. Japan needs to stop thinking they're so freakin innocent..
I LOVE YOU KWON JIYONG OPPA! I LOVE YOU GD<3

  • Janine H

Yeah, I suppose so. But at the same time, I think its reckless of GD for taking it in the first place, especially with so many anit-fans posing to be a regular fan, and attempting to hurt the celebrity. I'm just a little disappointed that he would take it. That's all. Its just...a little reckless in my own opinion. But it may be different in Asia or by yours or his own standards. That's just my persona opinion.

And I'm not quite sure you can get a positive hair test from taking one or two puffs. I'm not an expert but whatever. Its his choice.I just hope BIGBANG picks up their socks. They're one of my favourite KPOP bands, and I would hate to see them fall apart due to some incidents. All we can do now is be supportive however, at the same time, step back and not hate on Japan for their assumptions. (Not ALL VIPs are like this, but some of them are...really saying rude things about Japan...I don't think that's right.)

  • popcorn29

I'm not blindly supporting him because I know he did something wrong too. But I think it is very unfair for the Japanese media to react that way too, especially when their "facts" aren't even correct.

    1. From YG's explanation, GD smoked it in May. He was asked to do the drug testing at the beginning of June, but the result weren't published until July. So the criticism questioning about the drug hair test being positive 2 months after GD's drug use (and implying that he might be a habitual user) is false. He wasn't tested after 2 months.

    2. Korean National Forensic Service said that it is possible to get a positive result even if you smoked only a tiny bit of weed.

    3. Hair drug testing is more elaborate than urine testing. It could trace the presence of drugs in the body for years.

    4. The amount of THC detected on GD's hair was too tiny that his explanation of getting just 2-3 puffs seems plausible. This, plus the fact that he was a first offender and his age, contributed to the decision not to punish him.

I'm not saying that GD was the victim here. He clearly made the mistake of accepting the puff and YG shouldn't have attached the word "Japanese" when explaining what happened. They should have just said "a fan". But I don't think they were putting the blame solely on that fan. They were just explaining what happened that night. At least, that's the way I interpreted it.

And to be honest, "common sense" isn't common after all. You might think that knowing what weed looks like and how it smells different are sufficient enough to distinguish it when you're partying. I was a smoker before and that certainly didn't help me gain that "common sense" when someone smoked weed near me. If someone would offer me a normal looking cig but with weed in it, I wouldn't know unless I puffed and smelled it.

And about the remorse issue, I honestly think that what he's experiencing right now is more than enough punishment for his mistake.

I don't think it was wrong of him to continue performing even after knowing the test. I even feel sad knowing that he had to keep a happy and energetic facade just to perform when he might be bothered and afraid of public opinion once the news spreads.

Plus, if what he was saying is indeed true (that he wasn't a habitual user and that he only puffed it 2-3 times), then who are we, as fans, to ask for an apology? It was a mistake but he's not a perfect person. It's not like he did some serious crime here like rape, murder, etc.

I could totally get your point that it seems like they waited until the news spread until they did something about it. But at the end of the day, business is still business. Maybe they were hoping that fans won't know since GD was after all, not indicted. Of course, their company would prefer to hide this bitter news, but unfortunately, it was released and was blown out of proportion.

P.S. Sorry for the long read =_=

Well it was bound to happen that the Japanese would be offended .. but I think GD did the best he could to be truthful and that was important to him.  Breaks my heart that GD always seem to be the one learning the tough lessons the hard way, you can see the wearing in his eyes since the old plagiarism thing.  I swear, society must get some kind of high of debating these stories.  I know the media does it for ratings and money, but why do we let it perpetuate?  Because we are addicted, addicted to the emotional high of it all.  Its like extreme sports for neitzens.  But, whatever,  GD hwaiting, hang in there beautiful boy, true VIPs have your back!

I guess it's really different when you're in a country that doesn't really see this as a big deal. I don't know why for some reason I find all this issues so funny. GD is a musician so I judge him by the songs that he make/produce. Like the rest of us he is human, he made some mistakes but at least he own up to it. you know what WEED is post make you hungry and eat anything and everything (thats what THC does, it tells your brain to eat, even if your not hungry) so if GD was really useing all time, GD would be super fat by now, the other thing is if "the person" the one who gave it to GD, put the WEED in Cig paper, then you would not think or know it is WEED I'm about to smoke till you smoke and find out it is, all so the smell part is right, but if GD was in party where others where smoking real cigs and and some where smoking WEED, then how the hell would he even be able to smell it, you wouldn't be able to do that till after you too some puffs of it, cuz then your nose and taste buds would be able to pick it out of all the smoke, wich all so leads me to my next thought, if GD turned himself in for smoking it, why the hell would GD have anything els to hide right? the hair test came out +, it is probly cuz at the time of GD taking the 2 or 3 puffs he did, at the party he was at when it happened, if the other people in the party where still smoking WEED, GD would of inhaled the smoke 2nd hand from that, witch means GD would of had to been around a lot of the smoke for the hair test to come out +, but this whole thing does not change the way I feel about GD, I'm still a forever VIP, I'mnot going hate, cuz if I did I would be missing out on knowing a very talented person in the Korean Music world, I LOVE GD FOREVER!

  • Sheiry

HE SMOKED WEED 5 FUCKING MONTHS AGO. WHO FUCKING CARES ANYMORE. LEAVE HIM ALONE NOW FFS. He only smoked 2 puffs, IN MAY, and it is possible to be remained afterwards because he got tested in JUNE, but the results came out in JULY. And now in OCTOBER, this CLOSED case reveals to cover up some other shit ass story about Government people going to casinos or some shit. PLEASE. SHUT UP. AND SIT DOWN. JKSDFGJKSDNFJSDH
He's not showing remorse? Oh, please. I am so pissed off right now, so I'm sorry about my language but ffs, leave him alone. Yes, of course he is at fault, but it's been FIVE MONTHS. Stop bringing something up that's meant to be fucking over.

  • http://twitter.com/Sana44 Hasaanah

This whole entire situation is getting blown way out of proportion. For one, weed DOES NOT make you skinnier. In fact, those who smoke weed tend to gain weight from "the munchies". How I know this, I know regular weed smokers. They aren't stupid people either. I don't understand what is the big issue of smoking marijuana. It ins't even bad for your health. If they want to attack GD about smoking, better to do it about ciggaretts. (Though I don't care what he smokes)

  • Shoon Lei Yee

It is kind of true about smoking a cigarette from a stranger whom u've never met before.
Even though I love everything about YGE, the only thing they're lacking is giving the artists too much freedom..if they're in Hollywood, it's most likely to be ignored but they're Kpop stars....the public is watching closely of each and every step they make..

it’s obvious that they selected the worst comments.
Jiyong ISN’T a regular user, the only reason they tested his hair is because the urine test failed, this a proof that Jiyong isn't a regular user.
Please! Pray that this is resolved in good terms for Jiyong.

  • gingersnape

i don't have any idea why it turned out like this, i think GD didn't mean to put any blame in anyone, he just had to tell people his alibi, who cares if it's lies or not, there are people whose job is to prove that. i think they're too over-reacted criticizing GD to that extent. it must be difficult for him hearing all that bad comments from japanese people since he is about to release his first japanese single with TOP. i believe him anyway.

  • http://twitter.com/Mylenne007 Mylenne Shindou

oh! goog point, wanna know too!!

  • Angel

I also wanna add how BIASED these critics are! Completely ignoring the fact that his urine test came out NEGATIVE. All this bullshit with GD being a habitual smoker..pshh. He had no idea he was doing the test, so he could not have planned when to not smoke IF he WERE a regular smoker. Honestly, they're so biased and delusional when it comes to protecting the "face" or Japan -_-;; (there are other instances as well, but i'm not gonna get into politics and history here.)

  • guest

i agree.. it would really be different if he was in america..

i don't think his getting skinny is due to weed though.. from what i've heard.. weed wont make you thinner.. it even makes you gain weight.. but of course its not the same for all cases.. also, hair tests are more accurate and will show the quantity of the drugs used and pattern.. so they'll definitely know if he's a habitual user(thats what i know anyway..)

  • Angel

i got 2 words for these ppl. FUCK YOU. why?
because their whole shit with the "GD isn't showing enough remorse by blaming all of it on the Jap fan". Well assholes, if you put it THIS way, then I can easily say, "Why are you putting all the blame on GD?! Hmmm? Anyone with common sense can see that it was the Jap person who was in posession of weed to have been ABLE to give it to another person!"
Yea, that's right, your argument works both ways. So sit down, and STFU. =)

  • Jenn

GD most definitely bears responsibility which is why I cringe every time someone makes him out to be a victim. His actions, his choices, resulted in all this.

I can understand why people feel this story is far fetched but when you're at a club and have been drinking, you're not in your right state of mind. Things get passed around and I can definitely see GD being slow on the uptake, realizing what it was only after he took a puff and smelled it.

It's still a possibility so that's why I hesitate to say it's a lie. But whether it is or not, things would have been way worse if he had said he smoked it knowingly. In his shoes, I probably would have lied.

Putting aside the fact that YG controls his schedule, why would he have to stop his activities in order to feel remorse or regret? What does one have to do with the other? And are you suppose to lock yourself in a room and beat yourself up? Over something like THIS?

It got out and people don't want to see him performing, so he isn't.

Also, it's not a surprise that the Japanese are getting defensive (Because people in their country don't do drugs?) and attacking the Korean. There's bad blood between the two nations.

    Hi jenn and popcorn29,

I totally agree with the majority of your points. In fact, my intention was not to go against GD or whoever, but rather to remind all of us, especially fans, that we should stay objective and look through facts instead of just blindly jumping into extreme hate/support of the parties involved.

What I was trying to do was to let all of us understand the situation from the japanese point of view, or the general public (including koreans) for that matter and say why it is only natural for them to react this way.

As for the 4 points I have listed above, with regards to jenn when you mentioned that it's still a possibility that the chain of events did actually happen regardless of how slim the chance might be, I totally agree with you and will not say it is a lie. But my point was to say that even if the explanation that YG was giving were the truth, based on the 4 points (which I gather from the article and not what I came up with on my own, so in a way it's the 4 reasons or general expectations of the public), what it actually "seem" to the general public is still a very weak explanation and we are in no position to judge their negative reactions to the explanations, much less to hate them for those reactions.

Secondly, you asked the question why GD would have to stop his activities in order to feel remorseful as they have nothing to do with each other. Well, this is not for me to answer, because YG answered this question through their own actions when they stopped his japanese actions, citing that GD feels guilty and therefore needs time off to reflect when the news broke out. The reason they did this was because of public expectations. Basically when news of someone doing wrong breaks out, the public expects that party to give a formal apology and expects him to take a break to reflect, which is why YG is doing that. I understand business is business and they could carry on their activities when the public didn't know. Again, I was not trying to say whether GD should or should not have stopped his activities the moment he privately knew of the test results. What I was showing again was the fact that because of their actions, and also the timing of when they stopped his activities, it made GD 'seem' to the public as if he was not truly remorseful. And because when such situations happen and a formal apology is usually expected, the lack of one by GD again make it 'seem' that he isn't remorseful. I can truly understand his remorse and feelings right now, but we cannot fault the public for questioning that, because of the actions thus far.

And with regards to popcorn29, and your statement concerning the Korean National Forensic Science, I have read that article as well and totally agree with all of the information you have presented as well. But what I wish to highlight is the fact that on a day, one expert can prove an occurrence to be true, yet on the next day, a 2nd expert can prove the same occurrence to be wrong, and this goes on. So who are we to judge which experts are correct? It just shows that science itself is imperfect simply because we cannot expect the same result to be consistently occurring to every individual. And because of this, again my point is simply to say we cannot fault the japanese or general public for their opinion which stems from what the facts 'seem' to be suggesting. And that's why I'm appealing to all of us to stay patient and wait for more concrete information from actual parties involved, if there is going to be, instead of directing our anger based on 3rd party information or interview.

but If he takes full resposabilty, or admits to be a weed consumer he will go to jail, I think... smoking marihuan in japan or korea is a biiiiig deal, I am not sure, but I belive the consequence will be jail, and they are trying to aboit that. It is not like finding out a USA singer, or latino singer (I am from latinamerica) is smoking weed, in this side of the world is not such a big deal as it is in Japan or Korea.... ooh he made a huge mistake, bcs he is a singer and from Korea.

  • Alice22yao

I think this japanese individual needs to take some responsibilities for having marijuana to begin with since its an illegal substance. I understand GD did sometime wrong and wasn't thinking straight but I think everyone needs to stop talking about this and leave him alone, honestly how much does he have to suffer before the japanese ppl are satisfied.

  • Corikitty_cute

i really love VIPs.. they have good explanation..^^.. btw, this is a good sample in enhancing our understanding to this kind of situation.. :)).. anyway.. Let's pray for Gdragon for his redemption.. thank you VIP..:)

  • Corikitty_cute

Good response.. im also an avid fan of bigbang ang GD.. but im not biased nor transparent to anyone. Japan has a point. All we have to do (as a fan) pray for Bigbang and support them..

fans should analyze the situation. And use their brains.

  • Hiyori1001

    Fuck them..

"how could somebody not tell the difference" well anyone who doesn't smoke the damn thing wouldn't be able to, as he said he found it suspicious.. and it's GD's first offence and they said it was a very small amount of marijuana, i quote "VERY SMALL AMOUNT", cut him some slack.. they don't even have proof that he's a habitual user.. and maybe that's why it showed up cause they took the drug test just about 2 months after he smoked it...  A lot of people are criticizing him because he's such a successful and famous artist. And come on people, everyone's entitled to make mistakes.. just cause GD seem so perfect on screen doesn't mean he actually is, he's damn human too and very capable of making stupid decisions and doing wrong things!

  • Anonymous

and for the people who're saying he shooulda made a better excuse... the problem is what if he's actually telling the truth though? does that mean he shoulda twisted it a little for his advantage? and I dont think GD is stupid enough to partly put the blame on a Japanese fan just for the sake of it.... Of course he'll know what the reaction of the Japanese peeps will be... bla whatever! ji-yong oppa FIGHTING!!! D:<

  • Fern_natic

    No regrets,but love

VIPs should be united specially now... soo you need to chill guys

Public opinion. In the field of public relations that's "god". It's largely perception base and greatly influenced by social environment. No amount of argument, facts or reason can sway a mind set.  The adage "everyone has the right to their opinion" comes into play here. With the prevailing anti-Hallyu Wave sentiment, albeit covert within the industry, the  trigger is found.

  • popcorn29

    Hi (^O^),

I agree with everything that you've said except about the Japanese media (at least based on this article) not criticizing GD if he's a habitual smoker or not. I think they're implying that he's a habitual user because (and I quote from the above article): 1. In a nutshell, they are arguing that "I didn't know" and "I received marijuana" is too senseless or lacks common sense.2. They disagree with the fact that only two puffs of marijuana will give you a positive result on a drug hair test.3. They are also criticizing the fact that all the responsibility was given to a Japanese individual.4. Lastly (though not entirely related), they are questioning whether GD is really showing any remorse for the incident or not. It might seem like a weak excuse but I do hope that people would look beyond that and try to gain some sense of it; instead of blatantly dismissing his explanation just because it seems weak. What if he's telling the truth? The test results and time line of events do support GD's claims after all.  To be honest, when I first heard the news I was really disappointed but after reading more information about the issue (the time line of the drug testing and looking up some info about hair drug test), I realized that GD's explanation (though seemingly weak) is plausible. The prosecution has decided not to indict GD, but the issue has blown out of proportions. Again, I'm not blaming the public and the media if they are skeptical but the thing that irks me is that (at least on this article) they fail to report the correct facts about the issue which causes further misunderstandings that could lead to more negative publicity.   A perfect example of this is:"One lawyer stated on a TV show, 'Habitual users of marijuana will show a positive on a drug hair test. It is odd that G-Dragon received a positive result when he only took two puffs. Because the test wasn't taken in Japan I can't say anything more, but anyone with common sense will think that it is a bit strange."-------I agree with you that it is also wrong for us, fans, to hate and condemn groups for voicing out their opinion. However, media should also be more careful on their reports - show correct info and avoid statements such as the one I quoted above (and now even the Korean National Forensic Service's drug testing seems questionable *sigh*), since it causes more confusion/hate/misunderstandings.Whether we like it or not, some people will still judge and criticize GD. We might not be able to protect him from all the negative and hurtful statements people will throw at him, but I do hope as supporters and fans, we would all refrain from directing extreme hate at others so that this issue will finally die.

This article makes many good points. Marijuana is something that I am and have been familiar with for many years... so I know the drill. I love GD... but I do have to agree that the explaination given was a bit weak. Though, I feel like it wasn't GD's explaination; I feel like that was the only explaination he was allowed to give to the public. Whatever the case... everything about this situation needs to simmer down. Weed is natural. AND it's literally EVERYWHERE. Look at GD, he is fine. He's still doing what he loves to do, and he's doing it well. It would be a different story if the kid was shooting up Cocaine. He is bound to grow up, be curious, experiement, and make mistakes --- remember that he is not just a celeb, he is also human. Let him be.

  • Rimo3

I had a feeling that they were going to do this....

  • czarinaloves

I don't care if he took marijuana before as long as he'll stop using it again in the future that's fine with me. They do have a point, but what the heck all celebrities have flaws like this. You can't blame him, he's human too! As long as he keeps on believing on us, and he keeps making brilliant music, I'll be his fan until whenever.

  • siska

what i love about GD is he is a talented, hard-working, yet free and mischievous person. he does what he wants. he doesn't let anyone tell him what to do. that's what i respect the most about him, but it's also what gets him into trouble the most. i just hope people would see past this momentary mistake and think of all the reasons GD even succeeded in the kpop industry in the first place. what's done is done -- the marijuana was smoked,  the news is out and everybody's in shock. but the only thing to hope for now is for him to come back and redeem himself, and prove that no amount of controversy should undermine his great talent.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Kim/15212661 Sarah Kim

I just want to say that from GD's excuse, it's pretty understandable how he has behaved from the situation at that moment.
First, I know that people sell Marijuana similar to cigarette with filters and all other stuff in it. So, GD probably couldn't distinguish the difference between them when he received it from the unknown person. Plus, he was probably drunk from alcohol at the club with bigbang's after concert party. So, he clearly couldn't think straight at that moment.
Second, since he's a celebrity and public figure he probably couldn't dismiss the unknown person's offer at that time. If he'd dismiss it then other person probably would pick a fight with GD because he'd believe that GD's not respecting him.
Anyways, I just hope that everything's clears out as soon as possible so GD can focus working on his solo album and bigbang album and come back to the fans.
StayStrongGD! I support G Dragon!! He's the only one that makes VIP happy with his unique music and styles!! To be honest, other idols don't have as much as GD's potentials and talents...

  • Kila

yup3... i agree with u.. i dont thinks we need to interfere about their life as long as they produce great music... always support them and the music that they bring

  • Emma

i don't care if he did smoke marijuana, thats no big deal. I just don't want him to end up like amy whinehouse!

i dont freaking understand why this issue becoming this big.. come on and think. GD IS A TOTALLY NORMAL PERSON WHO WILL ALWAYS MAKE MISTAKE. AND HE IS NOT AN ANGEL SENT FROM GOD WHO ARE FREE FROM COMMITTING ANY SIN!!!!! dont u guys understand it???????? stop judging their personal life and judge them by their music..suddenly i do wish to tell gd TO STOP THINKING ABOUT SOME FAKE VIPS OUT THERE ... stop criticizing him and give support so that he will becoming more strong and learn from his mistake.. did u guys think that he do it in purpose? do you thinks that he want to destroy his career on purpose?????? shame on u if u think  like thatfighting big bang!! always remember there is too many real vips out there who keep and always supporting u guys

  • Lica_vanila

he will do, but then he will learn..but no matter what blaming is needed sometime to make him realize that he is being hated by someone even when he is on TOP.but i believe he will survive then....

  • loveandhope

We can’t really be sure about anything. Only one who actually knows what happened is GD and I just hope that he also knows what he is doing. Only reason I’m really upset about this is that I know marijuana not good for him.

But yeah, we can’t really be sure about anything. Maybe GD is gay, maybe he dates Dara, maybe he got two kids… I always wonder how these guys even do it? They can keep so many things out of public. Japanese visual kei bands are even better when it comes to hiding things… It’s like… How many photos of Ruki you can find where he is not wearing makeup or sunglasses. You can’t even tell how he actually looks like! And that is just the beginning… Public image is so important. It’s sad.

But still I love GD! Even tough I always knew something like this would happen. GD is so… So GD? :D Great power comes with great responsibility, or something… It is hard to be a star.

And sorry my poor English… guess wich country I come from. hih. ^^

  • goldengirl_rock4ever

truth is theyre only saying this and flaming GD becausee theyre mad GD said a jap guy gave him the weed... they lost their track... people think he said the comment about the jap guy cuz hes blaming him??! Korean police never said it was the Jap guy's fault  its GD's fault and even he knows its his fault for taking stuff from strangers...! he just told his story its not like hes attacking Japan or soemthing O__o!

i agree with them when they say the cigarrettes and weed smell different and that taking stuff from strngers is not a good thing to do but from that to saying YG is ignorant and blah blah its not right!!

  • Jjean

I think those japs...just want to be taken out of the blame...because honestly japan is culturally use to those kinds of drugs...they're more open to it....so it's just because they don't want to admit it

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5ZT4NP2GXMQG5VJXDION2AJTZI Billy

who gives a f$%^? and the whole nobody accepts a cigarette without asking whats in it thing that was mentioned, isa pile of BS because no one questions that unless it looks fishy, if i looks like a normal cigarette then it will be just accepted to the user >.> japan people are being unrealistic, common people do that yet their expectations for celebrities make it seem like common people don't exist with that ignorant comment that they made, and who cares if he did or not? did he kill anybody? did he hurt anyone? no, all great artist's take that sort of stuff every now and then so who cares? why make such a big deal?

  • Juaniita_2

Weed can make you skinnier. Not in the beginning tho, then you'll have the urge too eat and then you get sooooo hungry. But when you're "addicted" ( you can't really get addicted to weed, only emotional ) you loose weight. That's why you've to drink protein shaked when you smoke a lot of weigt ;) But it makes me so sad that they make such a big deal out of it. I live in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) so weed isn't a big deal for me, and I'll love G-Dragon untill the end.. <3

  • Pfft.

It's just weed. Once upon a time, everyone smoked it because it made them happy. In fact it's less harmful than alcohol. Shouldn't they be more concerned about the decline in America's economy? Or improving their lives after the disasters in Japan. -_-

  • http://twitter.com/nabi_butterfly Hae-na

i think he's not a habitual user but he did tried to smoke weed...
oh boy.. is this G-dragon's downfall??
what will happen to BigBang now??
Looks like Japanese fans were not happy with what he said..

  • ella

SHIT...could anyone else tell me THIS IS NOT TRUE !!! plsss...I Love GD but this is too much :-( i don't want him to do something that could ruin his carrier or loose a lot of his fans inclusive his life...plss Kwon Ji Yong DON'T DO SOMETHING STUPID LOVE U
