Announcement on the cancellation of GD&TOP's Japanese single release [NEWS]

Translation:

Member of BIGBANG, G-Dragon, was investigated by the prosecutor's office in Seoul (South Korea) due to suspicion of smoking marijuana last May. The result of the drug test came out positive but there weren't any legal penalties because only the hair test was positive. (Prosecutor's interview here)

Avex and YG Entertainment had a discussion after Avex heard the announcement. G-Dragon received a suspension of indictment but the news has an influence on (how he will be viewed by) Japanese society*. Because of this, Avex has considered this fact sincerely and has decided to cancel the release of GD&TOP's Japanese single, Oh Yeah (feat Bom of 2NE1) on November 9th, even if the incident happened before they had a contract with Avex.

We apologize to everyone and to all of the fans for this incident. We will try our best so that something like this will not happen ever again.

*Note: A popular Japanese celebrity was jailed just recently because of drugs. Even if G-Dragon isn't guilty, people reported with anything related to drugs are typically viewed badly.

An upcoming Japanese unit album by Big Bang’s G-Dragon and T.O.P has been cancelled, according to Japanese record label AVEX on Friday.

AVEX stated on Big Bang's official Japanese website, "We have halted the production of GD&TOP's single 'OH YEAH,' scheduled for release on November 9, because member G-Dragon was charged for smoking marijuana."

The two's album was set to be carried out under YGEX, established jointly by the boys' Korean agency YG Entertainment and AVEX in July, aimed at managing the activities of YG artists in Japan.

However, G-Dragon made headlines earlier this week after getting caught for smoking the drug although prosecutors suspended indictment on the singer since it was his first offence and he smoked an amount which was under punishable levels.

The 23-year-old singer himself confessed that he smoked the drug in Japan after a concert in mid-May. He tested positive in July.

"Even though the incident occurred in May, before YG Entertainment and AVEX joined together as YGEX in July, we decided to cancel the album's release due to the social repercussions by the Japanese society on the matter of illegal drug usage."

G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-young, is the leader of his highly popular five-member boy band who were discovered and trained by YG Entertainment.

G-Dragon and T.O.P came together for the first time last year to form their duo which saw their album receive much favorable response from fans in Korea.

    That's some partnership, sounds like Avex has all the control.  It's kind of BS too since it was a JAPANESE associate that gave him the drugs in the first place.  Probably even someone that works at Avex.  Young people don't really care as much as old people and old people are not GD & TOP's fan base, little kids really shouldn't be their fan base either, since their lyrics are quite mature.  

    I was just out with my Japanese friends last night in Japan and they were all talking about the different bongs they have tried to make.  Face reality people, young adults do drugs whether they are legal or not and your kids probably will too no matter how well you raise them, people experiment, it's life.

    It was bound to happen BUT still it sucks. I'm hoping that they'll be able to release it sometime in the future because it would be a shame if their hard-work in creating the Japanese Version of Oh Yeah went to waste.

    Alright this is a sign YG. You just need to go ahead and sign your artist to an American label and debut here because let's face it. With the HipHop image YG goes for plus these scandals our baby boys will fit right in. Well at least people will be interested to the say the least. Since stuff like this attracts people. Look at all the hiphop artists in the US. Some have been in jail/some visit regularly (Lil Wayne, bone thugz in Harmony, ), some used to be drug dealers (snoop dog, Eazy E, Notorious BIG) Have stabbed people (Jay Z) have hit people upside the head with wine bottles (Puff Daddy) I can go on man. I think it's time.

    Our boys need to come here where stuff like this ain't a big deal. 8)

    i was thinking about this today, and found in weird that when Japan went though that terrible Hurricane and stuff, everyone wanted Big Bang to cancel that concert, because it would be to risky. But Big Bang, told all their fans, that they had made a promise to Japan, and that they needed support through this terrible time, putting a stop to the requests to terminate the tour.
    So how is it that, when GD needs Japans support though this, they turn their backs on him, I mean the amount of substance was so minimal and even the prosecutors said this. I find that this hurts me knowing how hard and loyal Big Bang is to Japan, for them to turn away from him, is so wrong.

    As an American, let me say how deeply disappointed I have been this year at the tragic BIBBANG news. I was really looking forward to traveling to Japan to see GD&TOP after the release of the new single. Now things are on hold, yet again. I'm still a fan and I'll support BB forever!

    This is sad, and I know I for one was waiting and at the edge of my seat for this new Japanese single...but I also understand and I know that from here her can only move forward. Guess the YGEX debut is going to have to be Gummy ft. TOP and not GTOP.

    This type of thing is so alien to me , I'm so used to celebs and people in power doing what ever they want and a majority of the time it is hushed up.  Instead of him being punished or 'given time to reflect' a pr launch would occur if he lived in the west to cover the damage as soon as possible.  It is also dodgy the way the police were alerted , next we will have a yg sex tape !!!!! only joking , touches wood

    UGH. I'm so upset about this. I was really looking forward to this single, not to mention all the promo. GD&TOP were supposed to be featured in next month's issue of the Japanese fashion magazine I have a subscription to. I guess that won't be in there anymore. 
    This is also really bad for Japan-Korea relations. I've seen a ton of anti-GD and anti-Korean posts in Japanese, people are really angry as they see CD as trying to 'blame his crime' on Japan/a Japanese person...

    Honestly, from all the partying GD does I find it hard to believe he didn't know it was weed. That shit gets passed around the clubs all the time. But whether he knew or not, we just don't know, he must take responsibility for his actions so please let's not make him out to be this victim. He's a big boy.

The purpose of the YGEX partnership is to make them (BB and YG Fam) more known in Japan and get more fans but because of the issue, it will be difficult to do that.     When I was a teenager I used to listen to rock and metal music (still do quite a lot), as I'm sure a lot of Korean and Japanese people do too, and none of those bands were even remotely innocent in any sense. It's funny that a pop band has to be completely clean.

    All the great artists have had incidents like, or similar to these situations ( Beatles, Rolling Stones), though I feel Jiyong would never go to that extent to abuse drugs, because he loves music more than anything.  This will be something he will learn from, like he has with other miss-steps in his career and life.

    I don't want him to do drugs at all, but even if he smoked the whole thing it wouldn't change my view of GD. He's a great person. Some pot doesn't tarnish that fact. ...especially that small amount. <3
